Corporation selects Wayne Pickup as upcoming CEO for The Lottery
The Lottery Corporation (TLC) has announced the appointment of Wayne Pickup as its next managing director and CEO, effective from November 24, 2025. Pickup brings over 25 years of international experience in the lottery industry to his new role.
Pickup most recently served as CEO of Allwyn North America for seven years, from 2018 to 2025. Before that, he was CEO of Lotto New Zealand from 2012 to 2017. He has also held senior roles at GTECH Corporation (now Brightstar) in both Australia and Europe.
Pickup's diverse skill set includes expertise in technology, product management, and game management. This background positions him well to lead TLC into its next phase, particularly in the Australian lottery market, which is seen as having potential for innovation and growth.
Doug McTaggart, chairman of The Lottery Corporation, praised Pickup's leadership experience and understanding of lotteries. "Wayne's diverse skill set and understanding of high-performing lotteries businesses make him a significant asset for TLC at an exciting time for the company," McTaggart said.
Sue van der Merwe, who previously led TLC, announced her retirement in March after a 35-year career in lotteries. She will continue in her role until Pickup commences, working closely with the Board to help ensure a smooth transition. Pickup will serve as an observer to the Board until he officially assumes the CEO role.
Shares in The Lottery Corporation Ltd (ASX:TLC) closed 1.28% lower at A$5.38 per share in Sydney on Monday.
With Pickup based in Brisbane, he is looking forward to working with the talented team at TLC.
