Enhanced L-Acoustics Audio System Elevates Kay Yeager Coliseum for Athletic Events and Musical Performances

News Article: L-Acoustics A Series Sound System Enhances Kay Yeager Coliseum

The Kay Yeager Coliseum, part of Wichita Falls' Multi-Purpose Events Center, has received a significant upgrade to its sound system. In February, a new L-Acoustics A Series sound system was installed, bringing high impact and crisp speech intelligibility to the venue.

The A15i system, at the heart of the new setup, is a highly flexible system that caters to the venue's needs while keeping costs affordable. Noted for its light weight and compact form factor, the A15i speakers have made it easy to rig them in challenging spots within the Coliseum.

The system's design, a collaborative effort between LD Systems and the L-Acoustics Application team, has addressed the primary complaint about the previous systemโ€”the lack of clarity of spoken words. Anthony DiDonato, the engineering manager of LD Systems, explained that the A15i speakers have improved sound coverage for every seat in the Coliseum, regardless of seating configuration.

The new sound system features four-enclosure arrays of A15i, two-enclosure hangs in the end zones, KS21i subs, X8 and X12 fills, LA4X and LA12X amplified controllers. This comprehensive setup ensures that the Coliseum can deliver excellent sound quality for a variety of events, from local sports to concerts, trade shows, and conventions.

The integration of a QSC Q-SYS control system further enhances the system's flexibility. It allows the venue to turn speaker clusters on and off, adjusting sound based on acoustical and seating needs. When not using the Allen & Heath SQ-5 front-of-house console, the QSC Q-SYS control system also drives an auto-mixer.

The original sound system of the Kay Yeager Coliseum, which was over two decades old, had been a point of concern for many. However, since the new system was installed, attendees of various events have noted a significant improvement in audio quality. The A15i system offers a significant improvement in sound quality, making every word crystal-clear.

The Kay Yeager Coliseum, with a seating capacity of up to 10,000 people, first opened its doors in 2003. With the new sound system in place, it is poised to deliver superior audio quality for years to come. The system's excellent low-frequency reproduction for music ensures that it is suitable for a variety of events, making it a versatile addition to the venue.

The installation of the new L-Acoustics A Series sound system in the Kay Yeager Coliseum was handled by Houston-based LD Systems. The company's expertise in sound system design and installation has breathed new life into this iconic municipal venue.
